Prog ISP is a lightweight Windows utility for in-system programming (ISP) of AVR microcontrollers from Atmel/Microchip. It offers a straightforward graphical interface to read, write, and verify device memory using common USB ISP adapters (such as USBasp-class programmers).

Key features:

  • Program flash and EEPROM from Intel HEX or binary files
  • Read, erase, and verify device memory
  • Edit and program fuse and lock bits with bit-level controls
  • Automatically detect device signatures
  • Adjustable ISP/SCK clock for reliable communication
  • One-click “auto” sequence (erase → program → verify)
  • Portable executable; works on Windows when appropriate drivers are installed (e.g., libusb for USBasp)

Typical uses:

  • Updating firmware on ATmega and ATtiny devices
  • Burning bootloaders for AVR-based boards (e.g., Arduino)
  • Restoring or recovering devices via ISP during development

Notes:

  • Always back up current fuse settings; incorrect fuse values can disable ISP access.
  • Ensure the correct driver is installed for your programmer, especially on newer versions of Windows.
  • Prog ISP is a utility-only tool; for command-line workflows consider avrdude, and for a full IDE consider Microchip Studio.

Prog ISP is developed by ISP AVR Programmer. The most popular version of this product among our users is 1.7. The name of the program executable file is progisp.exe.

You can check Prog Finder, ISP Monitor, NuMicro ISP Programming Tool and other related programs like EE-Prog at the "download" section.
